Captain's Notes

Step aboard and you’ll notice the Koopmans’ trademark: a secure, deep cockpit where everything falls readily to hand, yet still leaves room to stretch out off-watch. The steel deck feels solid underfoot, with substantial handholds that make moving forward in a seaway reassuring rather than acrobatic. Her cutter rig gives you plenty of sail plan flexibility, from ghosting along under light canvas to shortening down quickly when the barometer drops. Down below, the layout is clearly drawn by a sailor—sea berths with proper lee cloths, real stowage for long passages, and systems that are accessible rather than buried. This is a boat that encourages you to think in terms of seasons, not weekends.

Why 1985 Koopmans steel cutter in Washington

In these waters, where conditions can shift from glassy calm to steep chop within a day, a steel Koopmans cutter is a reassuring partner. The moderate freeboard and powerful underwater profile give a comfortable motion in short, confused seas, while the cutter rig makes it easy to balance the sail plan as local squalls roll through. With ample tankage and genuine liveaboard comfort, she’s well suited for longer hops between harbors and extended time on the hook. The insulated steel hull helps smooth out temperature swings common in this region, making shoulder-season cruising far more pleasant and expanding your realistic sailing window.
