Description

1983 Mirage Yachts 33 Robert Perry designed this boat to be affordable, yet “state of the art” construction techniques were used by Mirage Yachts to create a most elegant and sophisticated cruising sloop at an unbelievably low price. Her self-bailing cockpit is spacious and a lot of thought went into the deck layout. Below there is a generous use of teak. She sleeps 6 in a cabin with 6’5” headroom. There’s the typical double forepeak cabin with head and vanity just aft and then the main salon with dinette to starboard and a settee to port with a quarter berth aft to port. The U-shaped galley...

Captain's Notes

Owners love how manageable the Mirage 33 feels short-handed. The cockpit isn’t just roomy; it’s laid out so you can trim, reef, and tack without gymnastics, and the wheel gives a steady, reassuring feel when the breeze pipes up. Down below, that generous headroom makes a big difference on longer weekends, and the warm woodwork gives it the feel of a “real” sailboat, not a plastic camper. The quarter berth is a favorite off-watch hideaway, and the U-shaped galley is secure underway instead of being an afterthought. Between the efficient Yanmar with Max Prop and the easily driven hull, she slides along happily whether you’re ghosting in light air or punching into a chop.

Why 33 in Wisconsin

The Mirage 33 is an appealing choice for these waters because it balances spirited performance with forgiving manners. Her moderate draft and easily handled sailplan make exploring tighter harbors and shallower anchorages less stressful, while the roller-furling headsail and reliable autopilot simplify days when wind and traffic don’t cooperate. The generous tankage and proper marine head with holding tank suit local marina requirements and weekend cruising alike. When the afternoon breeze builds, the stiff hull and efficient underwater profile reward you with quick passages and a comfortable motion. At the dock or on a mooring, the spacious cockpit and well-ventilated interior turn overnight stays into something you’ll actually look forward to.
