Description

HANA HOU is a Pacific Ocean veteran cruising boat, with a round trip from San Francisco to New Zealand along with extensive cruising to her credit. The Norseman 447 is one of Robert Perry's best (and favorite) designs - built for safety and comfort offshore in any conditions. The 2-cabin layout features a large centerline aft cabin bed, one of the benefits of center cockpit layout. The cabins are nice and light thanks to numerous portholes and light prisms. Both cabins have their own ensuite heads. There is a great galley for cooking on passages, very comfortable saloon and lots of storage....

Captain's Notes

Step aboard and you’ll notice how solid everything feels underfoot: wide side decks with serious handholds, a deep, secure cockpit, and hardware sized for real ocean miles, not just weekends. The cutter rig gives you flexible sail options when the breeze pipes up, and the hull carries her weight in a way that feels predictable and reassuring when the seas get lumpy. Down below, the joinery has that classic Ta Shing craftsmanship—locker lids fit right, doors close with a satisfying click, and there’s enough ventilation to keep the interior livable in the tropics. She’s a boat you can actually work on too, with proper access to systems instead of yoga-level contortions.

Why 447 CC Cutter in California

For these waters, with their mix of light-air days and punchy frontal passages, this design really shines. The hull form moves efficiently in lighter breezes, while the displacement and ballast ratio keep her on her feet when the weather turns on you. The center cockpit offers a dry, protected watchstanding spot when chop and spray build, and visibility forward is excellent for picking your way through crowded anchorages or tight channels. With the cutter rig, you can easily shorten sail without losing balance, ideal for squalls or gusty afternoon sea breezes. Long tankage, abundant storage, and true liveaboard comfort make extended cruising in this region both practical and genuinely enjoyable.
