This 1964 Kettenburg 43 #5 A is a unique opportunity to own a piece of San Diego nautical history. This classic sailboat has been meticulously upgraded over the last twenty years and offers many high-level installations. During the early 1960s, the Kettenburg boatyard of San Diego designed the K43 for both racing and cruising, built to the Cruising Club of America rule. Only nineteen K43s were built, and this vessel is one of the two made from 5052 marine-grade aluminum with an independent spade rudder, making it both light and seaworthy. The boat has a spoon bow entrance, a deep full keel, and a wineglass-shaped overhanging transom. Constructing the hull in aluminum saved approximately 1300 pounds, which was added to the lead ballast in the keel. The interior features full headroom with Honduras mahogany trim and large alloy-framed windows. The boat has a rich history, including winning the Whitney racing series and completing a fourteen-month cruise to the Marquesas and Tuamotu Islands, Tahiti, Hawaii, and back. The current owner has completed an extensive refit, making this vessel ready for new adventures.
