Description

For Sale Glasspar Boat. I have a 1962 Glasspar boat with a trailcar trailer, and a 1959 Mercury Mark 58 A 45 horsepower engine. It was last on the water in 2006 and ran well then. It was winterized and parked inside since then. In fact it has always been parked inside. No guaranty on boat, engine, or trailer and you pick up. Cash only. I live in Smithton,Pa15479. Do a search for a Mercury Mark 58 A outboard engine. This engine is electric start and has the original controls with it. The engine has forward, reverse, and neutral. If you are a collector or boat person you will recognize the...

Captain's Notes

This Avalon is from the sweet spot of early fiberglass design, when builders still shaped hulls with the same curves and flair as classic runabouts. The sweeping sheerline and low, wraparound windshield give it that unmistakable 60s profile that turns heads at the ramp or on the trailer at shows. Period‑correct hardware, simple analog helm, and clean cockpit layout make it an ideal candidate for a sympathetic refresh rather than a full-on custom project. With its compact size and relatively light weight, it’s easy to maneuver into a garage or workshop, and a manageable project even for a first-time vintage-boat restorer who wants history without a massive footprint.

Why Avalon in Pennsylvania

A 1962 Glasspar Avalon is a smart match for the inland lakes and rivers common in this region. Its moderate deadrise and classic runabout hull are well-suited to protected water, offering a dry, confident ride at cruising speeds without needing big horsepower. The compact length makes it easy to launch at smaller ramps and store in typical home garages or barns, which is ideal where dedicated marina space may be limited or seasonal. Paired with a period-correct outboard and trailer, it’s an appealing package for local classic-boat gatherings, evening cruises, and relaxed day trips on nearby waterways.
