Description

1998 Catalina C250 Sailboat Wing Keel. 3.5' Draft; 8.5’ beam, 25’ LOA. "Trailerable" but does not include a trailer; Mercury 9.9HP outboard circa ~2021. This is a pocket cruiser with full cabin, enclosed head, galley cabinets, stove. VHF, led cabin lights, Garmin Nav, Raymarine autotiller. Furling jib with newer mylar sail. Bought in 2021 and never really used due to work / travel. New batteries 2022. New running rigging ~2024. Bottom Paint ~2023. Stored on the hard from 8/23 - 4/25. As long as I have owned it: moored in slip on Neuse River. Good to fair condition. No reasonable offer...

Captain's Notes

Step aboard and you’ll notice how much usable space Catalina carved into 25 feet. The cockpit is deep and secure, with coamings high enough to lean back comfortably on a long reach. Down below, the wide beam gives the saloon a surprisingly open feel; there’s enough headroom to move around without hunching, and the berths are genuinely adult-sized rather than “kids only” bunks. The wing keel keeps the motion gentle and predictable when the afternoon chop fills in, and it settles nicely at anchor without the twitchy feel of lighter trailer-sailers. Engine controls and sailhandling gear are all within easy reach, making this a forgiving platform for shorthanded or newer sailors who still want a “real” cruising layout.

Why C250 in North Carolina

The C250 really shines on broad, open rivers and nearby coastal waters where winds and conditions can change quickly. Its moderate draft lets you sneak into quieter, shallower anchorages while still tracking well in deeper channels and stronger currents. The rig is simple enough for relaxed evening sails yet capable of stretching out for a weekend cruise without feeling underpowered. Protection in the cockpit and the secure wing keel give confidence when afternoon thunderstorms or choppy fetch roll through. With a comfortable cabin, enclosed head, and practical galley, it’s the right size for staying aboard at the dock or exploring the network of creeks, bays, and sounds that define this region’s cruising grounds.
